The Holy Bread on Saturday
When 12-year-old Priska learns that her First Communion (a Catholic Church tradition where baptized children receive the Eucharist for the first time) will be an opportunity to reunite with her mother, who has been working in Sabah for seven years, she is filled with excitement and hope. Determined to memorize 11 prayers required for the sacrament, Priska struggles with reading and retention. Her best friend, Tere (11), patiently guides her through the process. However, Priska is devastated when Tere falls ill and departs early, leaving her to face the challenge alone, enveloped in deep sorrow.

Emilianus U. K. Patar is a director and producer who has worked on various short films since 2018. He has been actively involved in the Komunitas Film Kupang (KFK) since 2019 and has participated in numerous film productions within the community. Currently, he is in the process of establishing a production company called Beginner, based in Kupang City.
Boni Kolin is a full-time editor who has been active since 2015. His first edited short film was SIKO, which was nominated for the 2018 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI). He has also been actively involved in the Komunitas Film Kupang (KFK) since 2016 and was one of the founders of the alternative screening space "Jumat di Garasi" as well as "Bulan Film NTT 2021," which later became the precursor to the "Flobamora Film Festival." Currently, he is focusing on exploring the field of film directing.
We aspire to see more stories from Central Indonesia, particularly from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), brought to life on film. Many heartrending stories about families in NTT, especially children left behind by parents who migrate for work, remain untold and overlooked in cinema.
We aim to highlight the struggles of NTT’s children: how they persevere, continue their lives, and draw strength from prayer. Their sense of togetherness as a family motivates them to do their best to reunite one day.
Moreover, the values of solidarity among the children, their spiritual strength, and the church’s role are vital elements that help fortify their psychological resilience. The church serves not only as a place of worship but also as a supportive space that provides hope and encouragement to these children as they navigate their challenging lives.
