Keenan has been writing screenplays since 2000 when he wrote his first feature film The Lost Treasure of Captain Blood. This children’s action-adventure script was inspired by his own childhood dreams of swashbuckling pirates and buried treasure while roaming the beaches of North Carolina. He also wrote the feature film The Choice for a local Christian production company, Five Talent Films, which won an Award of Excellence in the Accolade Film Festival. Additionally, he acted as a script advisor for the Five Talent Films’ follow-up movie, My Angel. Following those feature films, he was hired by a production company in northern California, 3 J Films, LLC, to write a children’s film called Chasing Rodriguez.
Keenan is a Registered Professional Geologist in Arizona with over 20 years experience and has been an adjunct professor at Glendale, Scottsdale, and South Mountain Community Colleges. When he isn’t working on his next potential blockbuster script, he enjoys picking his guitar or climbing the crags with his friends who inspired his rock-climbing screenplay, Over the Crux.
Right before the COVID lock down took effect, I was taking a class on directing. Since the world basically shut down, we took the class online and attempted to regain some semblance of a normal life. That was a pipe dream. Fear and uncertainty griped us all, and it was a time to really take perspective of things. Looking to find a way to help out, even if in a small way, my wife, incredibly skillful with the sewing machine, began to make masks for us, all our family members, and close friends. This inspired me to make a short film for my class and thus, the the origins of The Hero. The story of man trying to make a difference in the world through one small gesture. With 2025 being the 5th year anniversary of the COVID lock down, I figured it was the perfect time to bring out this little film I made during that tumultuous period.
