I'm Will Kizer, a high school filmmaker from the Bay Area, and I am developing my passion for film. As a kid, I lived in my own world and always loved creating new worlds in my head. As I got older, I had a strong desire to make movies with mind-blowing visual effects and wondered how they were achieved. This curiosity set me on the path of becoming a filmmaker.
First, I started learning Blender 3D, and then I began using green screens and After Effects to create cool films with my younger siblings. This introduced me to the world of filmmaking, and I became hooked. I started learning about shot types and the three-act structure. Fast forward to my sophomore year of high school, after creating numerous homemade movies, I initiated the Design Tech Film Project.
Currently, I am working on producing three films within my three years left of high school. I recently completed "The Heist" in 2023, and it was a valuable learning experience. Moving forward into my junior and senior years, my goal is to continue progressing as a filmmaker.
This film allowed me to step into the shoes of characters from my daydreams, exploring their perspectives and bringing their stories to life. I got to portray the events that answer the "what if" questions we have at school. It was helpful that when writing the film, I was often at the location of the film.
Since we cast from the school, we had a lot of new actors, and I worked to explain why they were there. I set up this film so the characters are always one step ahead of the audience since they know what they are stealing. I did this to really keep everyone on their toes about why the students are there.
