The Headmaster's Son
On a cold wintry evening, Headmaster ‘s home is unsettled by the arrival of three young visitors including his own son who has been away at college in the city. The time is the nineties of Assam steeped in militarization and anti-insurgency operations in the heydays of sub nationalist rebellion in Assam. The Headmaster’s frantic search for someone in the village to slaughter a few pigeons for the dinner his wife will cook for the three men uncovers the story of intrigues and delusions that their lives are wrapped up in
On his trek through the village on that grey evening, the Headmaster’s equanimity and peaceful life is rudely disrupted by the truths that stare at him as he meets with the village folk who apprise him of the happenings around the village and the fates of innocent people trapped in encounters. His moment of awakening is complete when he returns home exhausted to find his son, transformed from the young teenager who had left for an education in the city to a hardened man mired in a murky world.
