The Grey Feeling

Franziska Nössing - The Grey Feeling
2021, HD-Film, Colour, Audio by Fabian Kirchmair and Ilja Gasser, 37:58 min.

Many people struggle with depression on a daily basis. In 2020, these were intensified for many, but only a few people speak openly about it. The film "The Grey Feeling” arose from the idea of working through this topic artistically. States of depression are portrayed in this film in form of a ballad with seven scenes (1.Mental Freezing, 2.Mourning, 3.Melancholy, 4.Sensitivity, 5.Fear, 6.Being Broken on the Inside, 7.Admitting the Grey Feeling). The aim is to no longer conceal mental illnesses, but to deal with them openly.

Director Statement

As an artist and art historian, I am primarily concerned with issues of sustainability and the human world of emotions. My focus is on sculpture and film. I entered the world of art through my education in sculpturing. My path led me from working with hammer and chisel to experimenting with disposable materials. When I studied art at the university Mozarteum in Innsbruck I caught up in the medium of film, which I've been very enthusiastic about ever since.
