The Green U
How do you create a new, green entrance to the city? And how do you combine the functional requirements of a central station with an attractive park for everyone? raumwerk's architects explain what lies behind their idea for the redesign of Dortmund Central Station and its surroundings!
The concept of raumwerk is the winning design of the urban planning competition "Hauptbahnhof Umfeld Nord" in Dortmund, 2017. In summer 2020, the Dortmund City Council decided to redesign the main station according to raumwerk's plans.

Aileen Treusch is primarily concerned with creating cultural spaces for urban societies. She studied European art history, sociology and economics in Heidelberg, Frankfurt and Ghent. After working at different institutions such as the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main she founded faktory – a platform for exhibitions, studies and interdisciplinary projects at the interface of art, science and urban development. Recent projects have included the Festival “Poesie des Wohnens”, the cultural and urban development proposal for Düsseldorf “Flow” and the research and exhibition project “Today I Cleaned Out My Wardrobe”.
With her first film "The green U" Aileen Treusch communicates an architectural vision and therefore has summarized the complex strategy for an urban design proposal in an easy-to-understand and precise formula. She has mixed classical elements of the architectural language such as sketch paper, drawing and model making with digital techniques of rendered animations and aerial photographs of drones. The result is a collaborative work interweaving different approach strategies and individual perspectives: the aesthetics of manual camera work portraying the architect, 3D technologies, animation, sound and graphics.
