Best Indian Short Film, Best Actor, Critic's Choice Award for Best Director
Amey Khanwalkar is an Indian filmmaker, director and a screenwriter. He has written and directed multiple plays and stories.
He was an associate director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the film Gangubai Kathiawadi which was recently premiered in BAFTA awards and also won Filmfare awards.
Before Assiting Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ameya has acted, directed and written in multipe theatres and street plays.
He wrote his first plays at an age of 19 during his Engineering days, Titled "Sharab aur Aadi.." which was the only comic play with a message to our society.
Later on he wrote another play, inspired by "Sholay" and renaming it as "Aaj ke Sholay". Again from the genre of Comic, this Film earned our Female Lead as the best Actress in the National Region, representing West.
Moving onto the same genre, his next play written and directed was "21st sadi ki Mahabharat", this play won the Best Director, and Best Costume.
Notably, he also did a well known script in Dubai "Andhon ka Haati" assisting Rashmi Kotriwala and also playing one of the antagonist in the play.
During the course of his journey, also being an Actor, he has acted in Multiple TVC's, Digital Ad's, Episodics and Movies. Ameya brings in the experience of being a Writer, Actor and Director in his Debut Directional Short Film on a Digital Screen.
The film is showcased from the perspective of the Boy who falls into the trap of a Girl who he sees at the Airport. But why is it that only Divyansh from all the other people falls into the Girls trap.
The Film is like a metaphor, when a Spider lays the web, it waits, waits until a vulnerable target comes and falls into the trap. Once trapped, the spider, will not immedaitely feast onto it. But will play around and break the preys confidence of any freedom. Just like Satan holds onto a soul, or any predator does.
There are many under-linings within the film, like the Girl is wearing a Black dress, using numbers like 13 and 8. The bookstore guy who's acting like a Gatekeeper at the Devils Door, who warns you before you enter. The feeling of being at a place where you're not supposed to be. The feeling of paranormal stinging within your body.
So just within a 21mins of the short film, we have tried to tell a story, where the Girl deceives him into a different portal of demonic world or a dream, and what way a person comes out a dream or a nightmare? Big noise or maybe a Slap! But will he get out of it or not is something you shall explore in the end!
