Director Statement

The Ghost of Hope House came about when I was approached by an old friend Jamie Burr; an extremely talented Cinematographer who has shot numerous music videos and feature films. Jamie had access to a creepy old building that was in the process of being refurbished. It was perfect for a horror film. I’m a firm believer in reverse engineering a film around the resources you have access to, so we build the story around the location.

As well as being a huge fan of the genre, horror appeals to me as a filmmaker as it is fun, challenging and relatively inexpensive to make. You don’t need big stars or fancy equipment to pull off a good scare! I enjoy the process of coming up with new and creative ways to work around our limitations.

This project gave me the chance to work with some of my regular collaborators. Alannah Marie plays the lead role, Claire. I’ve worked with Alannah several times now and we have a great understanding. I love what she brings to the table. Composer Steve Kilpatrick is another Macabre Pictures regular. I love working with Steve as he is always able to exceed my expectations.

I enjoyed making “The Ghost of Hope House” and feel that it has helped develop my discipline and storytelling. I look forward to sharing it with an audience.
