Director Biography - Ashlyn Mills

Ashlyn Mills is a North Carolina native and currently attends The University of North Carolina at Wilmington. As a double-major in Film Studies and Spanish, she creates content inspired by her travels and life experiences. In April, Ashlyn released her first feature documentary titled “Querida España,” which studies the impact study abroad in Spain has on students with a focus on her personal journey of fighting an anxiety disorder and depressive episodes during the trip. During her time at UNCW, Ashlyn has assisted with a variety of student productions as director, sound mixer, and screenwriter as well as worked with film companies around Wilmington such as Honey Head Films and Cucalorus Film Foundation.

Director Statement

I originally wrote this story for a class last fall as a way of healing from my own experience with survivor’s guilt with the hope that someone else might be able to relate to this story. It has been an incredible journey making this story come to life and I’m so grateful for all who were involved.
