Experiencing Interruptions?

The Fruit of Desire

This is an experimental short film with the apple as the core image. The fruit symbolizes the “forbidden fruit” of the Garden of Eden, which is a figurative symbol of desire, and the apple is coated with gold leaf, which symbolizes the meaning that people artificially give to the apple, carrying the values and desires that human beings have been given. At the same time, it also reflects the famous treasure in ancient Greek mythology: the golden apple in the Trojan War, “the source of discord, the cause of disputes”.

The apple maps the world - people chase, praise, go crazy, rejoice, suffer, live and die for it. As it is catapulted to the altar in desire, it seems to become irreplaceable. And when it is about to be obtained, the truth emerges: it is both worth a thousand dollars and worthless. And the irony is that after one apple is obtained, new apples follow in quick succession, and the desire never ends.

“Whatever I desire, I suffer from it.” The apple becomes the mirror image of human desire, revealing the deep sense of emptiness and entrapment behind it. This is a journey of reflection on the nature of value, meaning and desire, and the imagery evokes a deeper reflection on the viewer's own pursuits: is the meaning we ascribe to it truly worth indulging in?
