The Follower
The Follower begins in darkness, with a haunting voice setting the tone for a story of unchecked influence and ambition: “Mai kon hu? Mai koi kirdar nahi, mai ek khani hu. Khani us pase ke, Khani us bin kaam ke shurat ke, jo kabhi kisi ke kaam na aa saki.” These words hint at the ripple effects of one influencer’s careless pursuit of fame.
The story follows a popular social media influencer who entices his followers with a betting app, promising easy rewards and excitement. Despite warnings from a friend about the potential harm, he remains fixated on his fame and profit. One of his captivated followers, a young girl, risks her savings on the app and loses everything. Her face remains unseen throughout the film, symbolizing it can be any follower and the hidden victims of influence. Her initial hope turns to despair, culminating in her tragic death.
The narration returns with an ominous tone: “Tume kya laga tha ke yahi ruk jaye ga ye silsila? Nahi, abhi toh ye khani baki hai, abhi aur kirdar aayenge, aur ye silsila lamba chalega.” A boy appears, watching the influencer's video, and, caught in the same web, downloads the app, unknowingly stepping into the same tragic cycle.
As the story ends, The Follower reveals how one individual’s ambition creates an endless cycle of loss, standing as a cautionary tale about the silent, devastating power wielded by digital influencers.
