The Fig
The film tells the story of how a Sichuan folk opera troupe survives in its own unique way and tries to change the status quo in the current urbanization and commercialization. It also reflects the intertwined reality and vitality of folk cultural forces and traditional values in the changing rural China.

Shangshu Academy(2010)was selected for New Asia Film Festival(Cinevolution Media Arts Society in Canada). The sun in winter (2004) was selected for 13th French FIPA International Movie and Television Festival.
A folk Sichuan opera troupe on the verge of closure, a sparse and elderly audience, an ambitious and young crew, and a camera as outsider captures them. Zhao Li, as boss of the troupe with joys and sorrows, gains and losses, is like a Fig. The fig doesn’t blossom but bears fruit. In fact, the fig has flower, but flower is in the fruit itself.
