The Fear in their Eyes

The life of a struggling single-father, Isea Jackson, gets thrown upside down when his 5 years old son, Max Jackson, gets diagnosed with brain cancer. Unable to afford medical treatment, Isea decides to come out of his boxing retirement and sign
up for the national boxing tournament.

When his opponent, light heavyweight champion, Kurt ‘The Mountain’ Backstrom, hears about Isea’s plans, he bursts into his gym to confront him. The underdog chances of winning are slim
to none - and Kurt will not go easy on him.

Isea knows he can’t afford to lose. He promises his son he will win.

After the unthinkable happens, Isea must decide between mourning his son or stepping into the ring to face one of the most dangerous men on earth.

Director Biography - Patrick Gavia

Buried under unsolved criminal cases for years as an archivist, Patrick Gavia committed to following his filmmaking dream and filled out an application to join Montreal-based media startup Goalcast back in 2017. He was the company’s first employee. Starting as a video editor, he committed to pushing the envelope of web-based storytelling. As Goalcast grew to become one of Canada’s top 50 growing businesses, Patrick Gavia signed his writing and directing debut with the short film The Fear In Their Eyes. “Life often hits us in unexpected ways. I’ve always turned to film to find guidance, strength, and meaning during those moments. I want to tell stories that can do that for people”.

Director Statement

I remember turning around while we were filming the second scene when Isea plays with Max in the ring. The entire crew was in tears. I couldn't really figure out why (it's a happy scene...!) but so was I. That's when I knew we were doing something special. This is from our team to yours. I hope it'll resonate with you just as much.
