The End of the Valley Of Tears

“The End of the Valley of Tears” is a film about Romanian Tichilesti, the last leper colony in Europe, place of human suffering and dramas unfold. This small village is also a space where humanity as a concept has been brutally redefined. It has been erased from the world maps for decades. Once inhabited by a few hundred people, today only 8 lepers remain. Year after year, more die off. This is the last chance for us to hear the villagers’ dramatic story. The story very timely in today's world...

Director Statement

Home to hundreds of people, Tichilesti vanished from all maps for decades,
purged from them by the communist government of Romania.
Today, only 8 people remain in the village.
When the last one of them dies, Tichilesti will once again vanish from maps.
This time for good.
This film is dedicated to the memory of Doctor Razvan Vasiliu (1957-2020),
long-time director and devoted doctor of the Tichilesti leper colony.
