Mark Hoffman is a retired clinical psychologist who briefly ventured into film making during his sophomore year in college in 1969, using 8mm and 16mm cameras to film documentaries, and two short art films sans dialogue, which embodied psycho-social commentary of the times.
Late in his psychology career, after attending a short film festival sponsored by a local public access cable TV station, he decided to write a script for that same festival the next year, and directed the film, Stardust on the Path to Music Circus. Then, in 2012, he entered another contest, Life Fest Film Festival’s 5x5 Filmmakers’ Challenge. Written, cast, shot, and edited within 5 days per the contest rules, the film, The Choice, won honors for best actress, best use of the prescribed prop, best sound design, and best picture. Following that, he has teamed up with other local and visiting filmmakers in various capacities including actor, writer, cinematographer, sound recordist, UPM, AD, casting director, location and props manager for several short films, and some feature films.
As a filmmaker, my desire is to make movies that do more than just entertain, but which also elucidate the human condition, educate, and promote values and understandings that contribute to peaceful and loving civilization.
This film, Little Room for Justice (The Elevator), based upon a stage play by Bertrand Younger Choice, fit the bill.
I am grateful to the playwrite for his generous permission to produce this story as a motion picture. I am also grateful for the patience, endurance and willingness of my partners in bringing the project to fruition despite a minimal budget, and the many obstacles and delays, including the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic!
