The Elephant in the Room

The Elephant in the Room is a film based on a novel I wrote in 2015 to share experiences encountered by members of a hospital team that care for the terminally ill and dying. This special form of medicine is called Palliative Care. I realized many healthcare providers did not know what we provided and the community was even less informed. I wanted to educate in a way that was both entertaining and informative. I felt a film would reach a broader audience and could be a tool to promote discussions about effective ways to communicate, the need for compassion, and show the difference a dedicated Palliative Care team can make in the lives of patients and their families. --Bonnie Freeman

Director Statement

I was so proud to be able to direct and co-produce my wife Bonnie's screenplay: The Elephant in the Room. It shows the inter workings of a Medical Care Team caring for Terminally Ill and Dying patients. The story is based on her true experiences as a Nurse Practitioner. I fell that the movie is entertaining but helps show how a team like this goes the extra mile to care for their patients with the highs and lows of the profession. Bonnie sadly passed away unexpectedly in early 2018 and only got to see the rough cut of the movie before it was totally finished. She would have been very proud of how the movie turned out and continues her legacy.
