The Eagle Has Landed
The Eagle Has Landed is a 50th anniversary tribute song and music video for Neil Armstrong and the Apollo 11 mission. Song copyright (C) 2018 by Mark Easley and Ellis Paul, all rights reserved.
The song is inspired by the beautiful statue of Neil Armstrong on the Purdue campus in front of the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering which shows Neil as a Purdue engineering student in 1955. As he stared at the moon back then, he had no idea he would be the first person to stand on it 14 years later. Mark's father was a Purdue engineering grad in 1948, Neil graduated in 1955 (the year Mark was born), and Mark graduated from Purdue with a computer science degree in 1978. Like all Purdue alumni of his generation, Mark feels a strong connection to Neil and the Apollo program. Thanks to Neil and all those NASA engineers for successfully completing the greatest engineering project in history in only 8 years.

The Eagle Has Landed is a 50th anniversary tribute song and video for Neil Armstrong and the Apollo 11 mission. Mark Easley and Ellis Paul co-wrote the song, and recorded it together in Woodstock NY. Mark created the music video about Neil and Apollo 11 using stock NASA archive photos and personal photos, and using the song as the sound track.
Lyrics:
It starts with math, equations on a blackboard.
White stars against a black sky,
I'm looking up from a park bench at Purdue
Staring at the moon, I'm staring at the moon.
It was Kennedy's dream to send a man up and bring him back again.
I joined the NASA team, astronauts and engineers working on the dream,
All working towards the moon, we're still a long way from the moon.
Higher, I wonder how high a dream can go?
We've been dreaming since the dawn of time
That the moon could be yours and mine.
Higher, look how the rocket fires
When the whole world shares the same dream,
When you and I are sharing the same dream.
July of '69, the Eagle has landed.
Turn your TVs on! Kennedy would be laughing.
That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
I'm so far from home and I'm feeling almost weightless.
Now the whole world is watching, and I can't believe this!
I'm staring at the earth
(Houston, Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed!)
I'm staring at the earth!
Higher, I wonder how high a dream can go?
We've been dreaming since the dawn of time
That the moon could be yours and mine.
Higher, look how the rocket fires
When the whole world shares the same dream,
When you and I are sharing the same dream.
Staring at the earth, I'm staring at the earth...

From Mark Easley:
I was honored to be invited by Neil's son Mark Armstrong to play this song as part of the 50th Anniversary Apollo 11 Celebrations at the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Ohio. I performed it live on the outdoor concert stage at the Museum on July 14th. I was also honored that Purdue University used the video of "The Eagle Has Landed" to kick off their 50th anniversary celebrations on July 20th in West Lafayette, Indiana, which I attended. Thanks to everyone who has used the song and video to help honor Neil Armstrong and the Apollo 11 team of astronauts and engineers who worked on the dream and made it come true for all of us.
