The Days Alive

In Taiwanese folk beliefs, after people died, the gods who called Qi-ye and Ba-ye will escort their spirits of dead to the Underworld. Legend has it, before the two were regarded as Gods, were life-long friends who called each other brothers since youth.

Peng-jin and Guan-long, born in Donggang, a fishing town located in the south of Taiwan. They serve at local temple Jia-jiang (troupe of deities), playing as Qi-ye and Ba-ye. Peng-jin, parentless, sees the Tzen-tou (processional troupes) as his home and Guan-long as his only family. However, the two of them are to graduate from high school and face the the parting of the ways. Despite wishing they would go down the road together, Guan-long decides to leave Donggang to be a policeman in order to support the family spendings. Standing at the crossroad of future, Peng-jin goes through an identity crisis.

Director Biography - Yu-Lun Huang

A Taiwanese director graduated from National Chengchi University in 2021. 'The Days Alive' is the director's first project about Taiwanese mythology and emotion among friends.
