Director Biography - Amy Tofte, Tudor Munteanu

Amy Tofte was awarded a 2015 Nicholl Fellowship in screenwriting from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She co-directed/co-wrote the short film Other Side which was awarded Best Independent Short at the 2016 IFS Film Festival in Los Angeles and has completed several additional short films as a producer including 2019’s award-winning IMPASSE. Her feature film, the zombie-apocalypse love story Better Off Zed (screenplay), was released in 2018. Tofte was a finalist for a 2017 Sloan Foundation Grant with her script The Witchdoctor’s Apprentice and a finalist for the 2017 Hedgebrook Screenwriter’s Lab with her script A Girl Grows Up. Her award-winning script Addis Abeka is slated for production with award-winning director Salome Mulugeta (Woven) attached. She is currently developing several projects for independent producers in both feature film and television. Tofte is also an award-winning playwright whose work has been developed and produced throughout the United States and internationally in the U.K., Australia and twice at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She has been a writer-in-residence (for both stage and screen) at the Autry Museum of the American West, Yaddo, Brush Creek Artists’ Colony and The Kennedy Center. Tofte has an MFA in dramatic writing from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and currently lives in Los Angeles.

Tudor Munteanu is an award-winning actor and filmmaker. In 2008, he immigrated to the U.S. from Romania to pursue acting. Since then he’s worked with the likes of James Franco, Sharon Stone, Peter Weller, James Wan, Elliott Lester (director, HBO’s Nightingale) and accumulated credits in critically-awarded film and TV. He recently premiered his short film SOLITARY (writer/director) at SeeFest. His debut short film, Other Side (writer, co-director) earned the 2016 IFS Film Festival award for Best Independent Short. He is currently producing a feature based on a Nicholl Fellowship script. He has produced three short films (Other Side, The Day After, IMPASSE) and co-produced a documentary short film (Billy Nice Guy) and is currently developing a sci-fi feature film (Little Things). He is a member of SAG-AFTRA and in 2018 served on the Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominating Committee.

Film has the ability to examine small moments in every day lives. This film is interested in spending time on screen with actors as they experience emotional arcs in real time. The Day After was created as a response to the 2016 Presidential election.
