Svetlana Trébulle is a writer and director who explores the boundaries between dream and reality, rationality and spirituality, grief and hope. Her stories are philosophical tales that question the meaning of life, death, identity, transmission and memory. She draws inspiration from traditional tales and myths, revisiting them in the light of the present. She creates dreamlike, poetic universes, where reality is often disturbed by various elements. Her characters are often tormented beings in search of their truth, confronted with moral or existential dilemmas. She uses chiaroscuro as a metaphor for the duality of the human soul, oscillating between light and shadow.
She has made several acclaimed short films, including La Louve (2019), a fantasy tale that won 9 awards at 35 festivals, including 2 for best direction. She is also working on feature film and series projects, such as L'Abri, a fantasy drama about an unstable mother who will do anything to find her missing daughter in a secret community that communicates with the dead.
My ambition is to take viewers on a journey of the imagination, encouraging them to reflect on and question the world, so as to make sense of the present by questioning the past.
