Fabrizia Faustinella is a physician and film maker. She grew up in Italy and moved to the United States where she practices as an internist in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas, and works as a film writer, producer and director. Her latest short movies, "Angel of Mercy" and "L'Apparenza Inganna" are examples of her multifaceted talent and her commitment to the film industry.
The movie “Angel of Mercy” was developed as a SAG New Media Project. It was shot in Houston, Texas, and was born out of the desire to address a difficult topic, which is source of much debate: is suicide an acceptable way out of this life to end pain and suffering? Do people have the right to commit suicide? And should they be helped, if they desire to do so? As life is a precious gift, ethical, spiritual and religious beliefs make us recoil at the mere
idea of suppressing it, no matter how compelling the reason might seem. In
the movie, Angela helps her “clients” to make the final transition, but it
comes at a high personal cost. The movie gives no final answers to the
difficult question presented. The supernatural element in the movie is also open to interpretation. Is that Angela’s subconscious or a true presence from a
different dimention?
In 2017, the movie has been nominated for:
- Best Short Screenplay at the International Christian Film Festival, Orlando, FL.
The movie has received the following awards and recognitions:
- Winner Jury Special Mention, Global Shorts Film Festival, LA, CA
- Official Selection at:
1) Mzansi Women’s Film Festival, Johannesburg, South Africa
2) Austin Indie Fest Film Festival, Austin, TX
3) International Christian Film Festival, Orlando, FL
4) Erie International Film Festival, Erie, PA
“L’Apparenza Inganna” (“Appearances Are Deceiving”) addresses issues of stereotyping based on accent, skin color, racial-ethnic background and looks.
In 2018, the movie has received the following awards and recognitions:
- Gold Remi Award WorldFest International Film Festival, Houston, TX
- Official Selection at Europa Film Festival, Barcelona, Spain.

“The Dark Side of The Moon”, is an educational documentary which explores the causes of homelessness, the hardship of life on the streets and issues of stereotyping and inner biases.
I hope that by watching the documentary the viewers will be compelled to reevaluate their own personal attitudes and prejudices towards homeless people, understand the complexity of the human condition and find within themselves elements of shared humanity.
