Director Biography - Jackson DiCarlo, Ben Anderson

Jackson DiCarlo was born and raised in Orchard Park, New York. Once graduating High School, he decided to attend SUNY Fredonia to pursue a degree in adolescent education. There he met Ben Anderson, a freshman video production student from Jamestown. The two bonded over The Muppets, Super Smash Bros, and a mutual interest in podcasting. After a year of hosting their radio show "Nerd is the Word," Jackson decided to join the communications department and venture toward a video production degree as well. Two more years of content production, technique education, and national isolation, their senior year approached. They began work on what was to be their biggest and most ambitious project yet, backed with a team of skilled friends and classmates they've met throughout their four years of study. During production, the duo had several of their works they had written/directed/produced for nominated in the SUNYwide Film Festival for Best Narrative - Comedy, including Carpe Diem, Wizard Interrogation, and Le Barber. They also scored a nomination in the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems Awards for Best Comedy Show their spinoff podcast of "Nerd is the Word" titled "The Phantom Zone." Since graduating in May of 2022, Jackson and Ben spent the summer as Associate Media Producers at the Chautauqua Institution as part of their Remote Production Team.

Director Statement

For our senior capstone project, we knew we wanted to go beyond all expectations. Some students struggle to give 100%, through this project, we all gave 450%. Far exceeding the 10 minute baseline of the project, our film was a test for everyone involved. This was a project of firsts in many ways: First time acting on camera, first time building a cave, first time directing, and so on. This momentous achievement has certainly proved what we're each capable of, and has proven one thing to be absolutely true: You don't stand a chance if you don't take a chance.
