Corona Camp – The Movie - Pandemic Creates a New Movie and Family Adventure
A first feature film made safely in Florida during Covid-19, following FilmFlordia.org COVID-19 guidelines
Miami, FL – As the Hollywood film industry, like many others, shut down this spring, a south Florida-based group of award-winning actors and crew created its own “bubble” by securing a 100-acre campground in central Florida to film a campy comedic murder mystery.
Victor Nappe, the director and owner of Chaos-Made production company, reached out to actor families he knew that had been strict in their quarantining efforts and invited them to be part of a movie. Nappe created the first bubble movie set at a private 100-acre campsite in Central Florida, where the families moved into 12 cabins to escape the shut-down of South Florida and make a movie. The preplanning and strict adhesion to all safety guidelines, like twice per day health checks (as set by FilmFlorida.org, the non-profit trade organization that sets standards for excellence), fell upon Nappe. The father of two teen actors, director, and 9/11 survivor, wanted to memorialize this strange and unique time in history with his family, by engaging creativity.
“What better way for a director to use his craft, starting with a storyline and let it evolve,” said Nappe, “We started filming with no script but a great storyline. What made the movie so great have such talented actors I knew I could build out the scene as needed. with some incredibly talented young actors and an enlisted crew of three, we all wore many hats and it worked! We filmed a movie and a damn good comedic mystery in 21 days!”
The movie, Corona Camp, takes place at a camp for celebrity kids that need to be kept safe and secure during the global corona pandemic lockdown. After arriving the kids learn that no expense was spared when a world-renown spiritual leader was enlisted to help the kids deal with the reality of this new norm. The kids learn what camp life is like or what they think camp life should be, until a mysterious accident.
“Corona Camp is the first feature film to prove that great movies can be made using alternative methods, surpassing the paradigm of the past filming,” says Nappe, “We were born for this! Everyone is ‘pivoting’ and we are creatives in the entertainment business—we had to figure out how to entertain ourselves and others—and keep working!”
