The Confession (DK: ' Tilståelsen')
The Confession is a Danish film, an intense chamber drama infused with a twist of underlying humor, that delves into the boundaries of guilt, consent, and memory. Loui and Jacob, old friends from film school, meet in an anonymous hotel room. What Jacob doesn’t know is that Loui has planned the evening as a confrontation: he wants to challenge Jacob with an accusation of a sexual assault he may have committed against their mutual friend, Sofie.
As the night unfolds and their versions of the truth collide, the confrontation escalates into a gripping and emotionally charged battle over guilt and responsibility. In the final act, Sofie, the central figure in their conflict, enters the story, adding unexpected perspectives to an already complex narrative. The film, a Danish adaptation of Stephen Belber’s Tape, balances its heavy themes with subtle humor, challenging the audience to reflect on what defines an assault and who owns the truth.

Tobias Scavenius is an experienced cinematographer with over a decade of expertise in crafting compelling visual stories for both fiction and commercial projects. His work has been recognized for its meticulous attention to detail and strong narrative focus. Recently, Tobias made his directorial debut with the feature film The Confession, a Danish adaptation of Stephen Belber’s Tape.
For this project, Tobias secured the rights and personal blessing from Belber, bringing a fresh perspective to the intense, dialogue-driven drama. With a career that spans across multiple disciplines in filmmaking, Tobias is now expanding his creative vision as both a director and storyteller, while continuing to build on his extensive experience behind the camera.
This film was an experiment on multiple levels for me—both to see if I could successfully direct actors and to explore whether it was possible to make a feature film on a budget of just 20,000 DKK (3000$), which I personally invested. Stephen Belber’s Tape provided a brilliant starting point, as its intense chamber drama is sharply written and inherently compelling. When I reached out to Belber and received his blessing to pursue the project, I immediately began production.
I adapted the script into Danish, scouted locations, sourced props, handled the cinematography, sound, and editing—all while directing the entire film.
This project became a challenge not only to myself but also to the medium of filmmaking: how far can one person go as a one-man army?
