Chiyahir Rong (The Colour of Pen)

In the decade of 90's, several extremist organizations in Assam started armed struggle against India to secede the state from the country. This had created an unprecedented volatile and dangerous situation in the state. Therefore, journalists found it hard to carry out their duties as the secessionist organizations had imposed ban on the newspapers which opposed their ideology. Despite such adversity a few brave journalists and editors of some local newspapers continued to serve the readers, following the constitution of India as well as the journalistic ethics and defying the dictate of the outlawed organizations. One such journalist is Jitumoni Bora who has been relentlessly serving the readers since the 90's, following the journalistic ethics. The flim “Chiyahir Rang” depicts and highlights the volatile situation created by the secessionist forces in the 90's. The film also highlights the terror and agony faced by him and his colleagues. Some journalists lost their lives in the hands of the organizations as they rose against them to help protect the truth and keep intact the integrity of the nation. These journalists' bravery in the period was laudable and unique. However, in doing so, they had to face financial crisis apart from constant threat to life from the armed organizations. This flim beautifully portrays this, too.

Director Statement

I have a first-hand experience on what was happening in Assam during the 90's. I am a son of a journalist. I was surprised to see how the brave journalists tried to perform their duties, rising against the outlawed armed organizations and helping out protect the integrity of India. Among the journalists, some had sacrificed their lives due to their stand against the secessionist forces. Senior Jornalist Jitumoni Bora's novel “Chiyahir Rang” vividly portrays the gory days and when I have read the novel, I dreamt to make a flim on it. The film is a humble endeavour of us to present a picture of the said period infront of the world.
