Experiencing Interruptions?

The Carpet

The poetry video Carpet has arisen in collaboration of the two female artists from different fields with similar poetical experiences and beliefs.
The topic of the poem is a person’s tendency to avoid facing issues and keep on pretending that everything is in balance. Therefore, the main motives are the carpet, symbolizing a person’s denial of existing difficulties, and the mountain, which personifies the extent to which negligence of those issues can lead.
Both motives are the basis of the film, intertwining as symbols of a safe escape (the carpet) and of constant struggle which is the consequence of such an attitude (climbing up a sand hill).
The protagonist is dragging the colourful carpet through streets, fields and paths while wearing high heels and presenting a façade both for the public and herself. It is always with her, as a personal burden. On the other hand, her inner world is presented by her constant attempts to climb the sand hill, which symbolizes transiency, and even when she succeeds in reaching the top, she finds herself underneath a wire grid.
The last few verses of the poem, directly addressing the audience, present an unsuccessful escape as the film ends with the protagonist still dragging the carpet along the same street as at the beginning of the poem.
