Emilie Lowe is a 21-year-old Egyptian-Australian who understands what it means to overcome adversity. Having struggled with dyslexia her whole life, she never let that stop her from pursuing her love for script writing and film directing. Emilie has written a number of short films, theatre pieces and poems, and has loved stepping into the world of directing for the first time.
As a budding filmmaker, she loves to create films that include symbolic imagery and have a dream-like aesthetic. She also notes that including topics on issues that affect women and that are still prevalent in the modern age is something that she is very passionate about.
Being a university student has not hindered her love for creating film, with her spending every hour not studying out in the field acting, directing, and creating.
After graduation, Emilie hopes to enter the field full-time and cannot wait to express her creativity through the medium of film!
'The Canary' is by far my most ambitious project, and working with a small team we enjoyed every moment put into this film!
I really hope to have created a visually appealing short, that emphasises Australia's incredible and diverse landscape, while also highlighting the oppressive nature of the 1800's.
I hope that you enjoy watching 'The Canary', and I thank everyone who put in so much effort to make this short a reality.
