Kai Patterson, born and raised in Hawaii on the island of Oahu, showed a love and passion for filmmaking from a very young age. When he was just 5 years old he was allowed to watch Jurassic Park, and instantly fell in love with it. The young Kai Patterson first thought he loved the movie because he wanted to be a paleontologist, but soon realized that he loved the way stories could be told through film.
When Kai was just 12 years old he entered a local video contest in Hawaii for a cell phone service and won first place. This particular contest had been for high school students and Kai was only a 7th grader at the time. He then hosted his own segment on the local TV show called Brown Bags To Stardom, for which he won an award in 2007.
He moved from Hawaii to St. Louis, Missouri in 2008, where he spent years making short sketch videos for his YouTube Channel.
Patterson began attending Principia College in 2013, where he started working at the college's Media Services Video Crew, and where he produced the short films Red Mission, The Caulfield Killer, Moments, Ready Or Not, and many more. In 2015, Kai decided to take some time off from school to really dive into his film career and build up his portfolio. He later returned to Principia College in the Fall of 2016 to graduate in the Spring of 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy. After college, Patterson moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career in the film industry.
Patterson has worked on commercials, features, shorts, podcasts, and countless other artistic mediums. He worked as an Associate Producer and Editor for Lewis Howes' School of Greatness Podcast for almost 2 years and has since moved on to freelance filmmaking and VFX work.
He has recently gained global media attention from Variety, IGN, Screen Rant, Inside The Magic, and many more, for his viral Fan-Edit of the six-part Obi-Wan Kenobi show on Disney+, which he edited down into a single 2.5 hr movie.
Kai enjoys using many different mediums of storytelling, including drawing, acting, writing, and improv comedy. But his favorite medium by far is filmmaking as it is an immersive and powerful way of captivating an audience's imagination and transporting them to new and exciting realities.
