The All Things — Better Be Better

There’s this friend of mine
He takes up all my time
And he never asks me anything at all
He just says:

You got to be better
You got to live better
You better breathe better
You better be better to yourself

In my coat and tie
While all the pretty people walk by
I saw him from the corner of my eyeball
So I said:

“What do you want from me, man?
I do the best that I can.
You know I’ll work it all out.”
He said “You’re lyin’ to yourself, son.”

You got to be better
You got to live better
You better breathe better
You better be better to yourself

I got to be better
He got to live better
She better breathe better
We better be better to ourselves
