The Cabbage Statue
Posters of the famous Cabbage Statue of Ranau, Malaysia, are seen everywhere in Singapore. Swayed by the advertisements, Kelly convinces her less-than-enthusiastic best friend, Ruth, to take a trip across the Causeway to find it.

Megan Lim En is a Singaporean filmmaker interested in exploring absurd and hilarious stories hidden in plain sight - whether it’s a family mourning their pet rabbit or two friends searching for an elusive cabbage statue. Her works has been archived by the Asian Film Archive and selected to be part of the 32nd Singapore International Film Festival. Previously based at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Megan is currently completing her degree at NTU’s School of Art, Design and Media.
The famous Cabbage Statue of Ranau, Malaysia has recently been given a tourism uplift. Kelly keeps seeing advertisements for the one-of-a-kind Cabbage Statue and she’s had enough - she has to see this Cabbage Statue for herself. She drags along her mildly reluctant best friend, Ruth, on the adventure. What they find might be less impressive than the advertisements make it out to be.
The Cabbage Statue of Ranau, Malaysia is about expectations, disappointment, and the friendship of two girls as they weather the definitely-not-shot-in-Singapore terrain of Ranau, Malaysia.
