All we needed was a parking lot. Or a garage. We wanted to make a short comedy about a kidnapping gone wrong. We had no budget, but we had a camera, a script, four actors and the SAG paperwork. We even had a Saturn. We thought all this was supposed to be the hard part.

We looked on Craigslist. People were renting out their garages for $150 a month. How much to use it for just one day? They would only reply with emoticons:

[̲̅$̲̅(̲̅∞)̲̅$̲̅] (^_-) 🌮

Location fee quotes were the closest we came to feeling like Spielberg. We're still not sure what the taco meant.

About to give up, Brian vented to his brother-in-law during a random visit, marveling over how hard it was to find a garage in all of L.A.

“I can get you a garage,” replied the brother-in-law, shrugging. “Or would you rather have a ginger ale factory?”

Turns out he knew a guy.

And so we made a movie.
