Filmmaker and cinema aficionado Gene Dolders got his start in the industry at the turn of the century as a freelance cameraman in the corporate sector. Hailing from Liverpool, Dolders spent several years honing his craft on commercial shoots in the US, Europe and the Middle East, before a move to the Far East followed in 2006. For the next decade he lived and worked in various cities such as Daegu, Guangzhou, Macau and Manila, soaking up the different flavours of cinema on offer while learning from people in the business.
In 2018, Dolders decided to focus on what was most important to him; carving out a niche as a filmmaker, while also utilising his skills and experience to help give talented young artists across north-west England a flying start in the creative industries. Thus, he formed his own production company, Barber Green Digital.
The Blade Cuts Deeper is Dolders’ first feature-length flick, having previously directed two shorts including Death Is The Keeper Of Secrets and Death Is Not A Whisper.
My dream to make a feature, especially a horror feature, has finally come true and my love for directors such as Dario Argento, Sergio Martino and Lucio Fulci really shines through in the movie. Many of the Giallo tropes are present in the movie as I love the aesthetic and the mood it helps create
