Blake Gamble from a young age has always had a flair for the dramatic arts. As a late teenager, Blake fell in love with film and has spent subsequent years honing his skills of the craft. Blake's films have been screened in Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris and Germany with multiple award wins and his latest film THE ART OF CRYING is set to continue this trend.
Like most of the world, I went through a slump with the worldwide pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. All the anxieties and paranoia about when our life would return to normal was all I could think about, and the thought of getting back on set and doing what I love seemed like a distant fantasy. However, born out of this was a newfound appreciation and burning desire to get back to work for one simple reason: because it makes us alive.
THE ART OF CRYING was a project born out of necessity, going through some grief in my personal life reminded me of a shared human experience; being unable to express one's self. The film I believe perfectly encapsulates my feelings toward the pandemic, rendered by the incredible efforts of our cast and crew.
Stylistically, I drew inspiration from the Greek Weird Wave moment. Focusing heavily on efficient and functional filmmaking, I was inspired to shoot only what we needed to keep the film as lean and taut as possible, something I believe we successfully achieved. I hope you have as much fun watching this as we did making it.
