NOTES FROM THE CONTEST DIRECTORS:
Our first film contest of 2021 will explore the dichotomous and tension-filled sub-genre that is the Dystopian Love Story. (Ex. 1984, The Lobster, Metropolis, Brazil, Blade Runner, Videodrome, Alphaville, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind...) Often blurring lines between futuristic sci-fi and present-day speculative fiction, this type of film dissects the nature of what it means to be human in a technologically advanced/corrupt/destroyed/dysfunctional society. (Hint: we find out love is central to that answer if not thoroughly the core of it...though we usually find this out too late, as this sub-genre tends to end tragically).

Jury Prize winners are automatically accepted into Austin Arthouse Film Festival, Year 4.

Awards & Prizes

1. The Jury Award ($500) is decided by the Austin Arthouse Film Festival directors and is based on artistic merit as well as adherence to the guidelines. The winner of the Jury Award is automatically an official selection of Austin Arthouse Film Festival, Year 4 and will be featured in an upcoming issue of Arthouse Quarterly.
2. The Audience Favorite award ($250) goes to the film with the most likes on the Austin Arthouse Film Festival Vimeo page and will be featured in an upcoming issue of Arthouse Quarterly. *Please note, anyone that wishes to like or comment on your video must have a vimeo account.
3. Select films may have the opportunity to screen at a theater in the future and/or as an official selection of Austin Arthouse Film Festival, Year 4.
4. Voting (likes) will be tallied between February 8-13, 2021 until midnight (central). Winners will be announced February 14, 2021.

Rules & Terms

Entrants must abide by laws and guidelines concerning quarantine and self isolation according to their local regulations.

Submissions must be accompanied by the applicable submission fee and a completed online entry form. Films must be submitted as an online streaming video via a participating submission platform (FilmFreeway) or a password-protected streaming URL. If you change the password or link after submitting, you must email the Festival at austinarthouseff@gmail.com immediately with that change so we may update accordingly. If the Festival is not notified of the change and the link is found to be inactive or the password to be incorrect, the submission may be deemed ineligible.
AustinArthouseFF screens films as digital files only during the Festival. Films must be available for screening during the Austin Arthouse Film Festival in January 2021. Films selected must be in some way categorized as arthouse or experimental in some way. If accepted, filmmaker agrees to allow AustinArthouseFF the liberty to edit beginning and/or ending credits down for the purpose of time as well as use film footage and audio for promotional purposes. The submitter must be entitled to submit the film and the legal rights to screen it. Submission does not guarantee acceptance, AustinArthouseFF will select the films for the festival and the submitter will be notified if the film has been accepted. By submitting a film the filmmakers, copyright owners and distribution rights owners agree to have the film screened if selected for the program.
We reserve the right to use stills and images for our promotional material, website, program and press release. Films must be original work. Applicants are solely responsible for obtaining all necessary rights and permissions for third-party materials included in their films, including but not limited to music, trademarks, logos, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights. Austin Arthouse Film Festival expressly disclaims all liability or responsibility for any violations of the foregoing.
BY SUBMITTING THE MATERIAL, I/WE HEREBY AGREES TO INDEMNIFY, HOLD HARMLESS, AND DEFEND THE FESTIVAL, ITS EMPLOYEES, DIRECTORS, REPRESENTATIVES, AND AFFILIATES FROM ALL LIABILITY, CLAIMS, AND DAMAGES IN CONNECTION WITH THE SUBMISSION AND FROM ANY FEES AND EXPENSES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO REASONABLE ATTORNEYS’ FEES, THAT ANY OF THEM MAY INCUR IN CONNECTION THEREWITH.
