Director Statement

The film Thamasoma Jyothirgamaya, is based on real-life instances in the period from 2001-2014 in Telangana state that occurred in Bhoodan Pochampally, in the backdrop of suicides and migration of handloom Weavers. When I was hardly a nine-year-old schoolboy. In Bhoodan Pochampally “Eight weavers from different families committed suicide in one month that year”,and my father also a weaver. I have seen first-hand knowledge of the difficulties the weaver community faces. So I am decided to make a feature film on handlooms designs and Ikkatpatterns and other innovations of weavers. Not just suicides and migration, there is a bigger picture of culturally-rich. “The film is a story of victory from defeat.” and new innovations should come in handloom and handicrafts.
“Vocal for Local” is the need for the nation to come together to encourage local businesses and products. We hope that this film will support the handicrafts industry.
