TEMPORARY HOME
The film shows work in a initial reception home for refugees in Berlin. The filmmakers chose to show every scene and event in a static single shot and thus use the language of depicting reality as it was used at the beginning of film 130 years ago by the brothers Lumière.
The images show undramatic everyday life situations in which the essentials of life in a new surrounding for the residents are being discussed: a fresh start at the home, details on the surgery for a sick child, procedures with the embassy during the process of becoming reunited with a husband still stuck in Turkey.
Attentive and exact work in the hostel is taken for granted by the staff. This does not go for all refugee homes in Germany.
The film also shows that the home is a workplace for many, a fact not to be underestimated in a city like Berlin with a high unemployment rate. As with residency, jobs are temporary.
