Director Statement

During my freshman year of college, I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and it continues to affect me in my daily life. After a particularly rough week, I decided to write about some of my experiences and emotions and turn it into a short film in order to gain some clarity about my condition. One year later, despite all challenges faced while making this film during the school year combined with the unpredictable conditions of filming in Chicago, this is the result.

Set against a gloomy portrait of downtown Chicago, main character Ben, feeling empty, hopeless, and depressed, embodies the cold atmosphere of the city. Although, similar to a situation that I found myself in at one point after suddenly re-meeting an old friend in the city (upon which this film is partially based), he doesn't remain this way through the entire runtime!

Furthermore, as someone who is autistic and uses writing and filmmaking as tools to better understand myself, people in my life, and the world, this is my most personal and intimate film to date about mental health. My hope is for the film to speak to and connect with people who have also been struggling with anxiety and autism, and for anyone who has felt lost in their life to find a connection with this story.
