Director Biography - Lwiza Gannibal

Lwiza Gannibal/Luiza Almeida holds a degree in Journalism from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and both Master’s and Doctorate in Literature from the University of Sao Paulo, where she researched Philosophy and Musicology. Currently, she is a researcher in ethnomusicology with a scholarship from UNIRIO. She has been to Russia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique and Tanzania, studying the field of music. She participated in a one-year exchange program at the University of Manchester, and, as visiting researcher, in the African Music Program of the South African College of Music in UCT, Cape Town. Author of numerous articles on African culture, she lectured Introduction to African Music in schools, colleges, and cultural centers. Producer and director of such documentaries as "Tempo Zawose" (on music of the Wagogo) and "Dzimba dze Mabwe – House of Stone" (on Shona culture), featured in the International Music Documentary Film Festival In-Edit Brazil, she more recently worked as musical director on the play “Nuang – Pathways to Freedom”.
