Tears and a Wedding
Mariana, a 16-year-old Romanian American girl, attends her uncle's wedding in the old country. Amid culture shock at finding the old country isn't as old as she thought, Mariana begins to explore her heritage. Her plans of becoming a social media influencer through her trip is derailed when generational trauma pays a visit. Mariana must enlist the help of her uncle and his fiancée to avoid getting trapped in the same situation that her mother did 30 years before. This play explores the issues of social media, alcoholism, intergenerational trauma and sex trafficking, told as a dark comedy using Romania's cultural heritage as a backdrop.
