Shane Vermooten is a Mandela Washington Fellow and a Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South African. As a director his work has won awards around the world, most recently picking up silver and craft Loeries for a marketing campaign he conceptualized and directed. He also won best narrative short at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles and was nominated at the Black Reel Awards for outstanding foreign film. His short film Freedom Road was screened alongside William Kentridge's work at the City Gallery in Wellington, New Zealand. Bypass, Shane's debut feature film, starring Natalie Becker, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Deon Lotz and Greg Kriek, exposes the dark world of organ trafficking and resulted in a 40% spike in Organ Donation registrations. His first startup, Cinemo, provided pan-African video content to over 400 000 people via low-end mobile phones before it was sold to another Video-On-Demand platform.
