Director Statement

My short film, "Te Veo," is inspired by my father's story, whose journey particularly moved me. It is a source of great pride for me to be the daughter of a person who sacrificed so much for a better life in the United States. I wanted to convey my father's story in the best possible way, which is what I'm passionate about: filmmaking.

A few years ago, my dad told me his story as an assignment for his first Toastmasters meeting. I thought he made it up. "MY dad? Did that?" I was kind of upset that he hadn't told me before. Honestly, I never imagined that he'd do something so dangerous, because he's just not that guy. In the midst of hearing this story, my mind immediately began to visualize it as a film. I felt that it was an important story to tell. Aside from the fact that this is a success story, he didn't have to go through the tragic hardships we constantly see and hear from the media, films, shows, etc. He was among the lucky ones.

I was able to complete this project within a limited budget and timeframe. Something within me told me to keep going, no matter what. I was battling a chronic illness in which the intensity of my symptoms sometimes became too much. And because of this, there were a few delays. Fortunately, because of our talented and patient cast and crew, we managed to pull it off.
It is a pleasure to share this significant part of my father's story with you all, and I cannot wait for you to see it.
