Taylor James (yes… like the singer in reverse) is a retired backup dancer turned director and writer. Originally from the icy tundra of Canada, he immigrated to the US to pursue a professional dance career. Following a successful 15 year career sharing the screen/stage with many of the worlds top performers (JLO, Dua Lipa, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Hugh Jackman), he transitioned to filmmaking after being forced into retirement due to old age (...33).
Starting out, Taylor cut his teeth in music videos and branded-content, working with artists like MUNA, Jason Mraz, and brands like Jimmy Choo, Naturium, and Pacifica Beauty. He recently wrote and directed his first narrative project, “ILY, BYE”, a chaotic, queer comedy short film starring Meg Stalter, Kanoa Goo and Rainn Wilson.
His main focus is to make people laugh and create stories about queer characters that lean into the playfulness, humor and absurdity of the LGBTQ experience. It can often feel like queer pain is overrepresented on screen. Taylor is passionate about showing queer people as more than their struggle by focusing on the beauty, joy and comedy in their lives.
His upcoming short film, "ILY, BYE", marks his narrative debut and stars Megan Stalter ("Hacks"), Kanoa Goo ("I Was A Simple Man", "The Rookie"), and Rainn Wilson ("The Office").
