A Chinese Singaporean-Australian filmmaker and actor, living in Vancouver, Canada, with a background in strategic communications and drinks mixology. Having lived across Australia, Singapore, China, South America, the US and Canada (descending from Chinese Singaporean, Dutch and Irish heritage) travel, language and culture clashes have greatly influenced Tanya's creative perspective.
Originally graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) in 2008, majoring in Public Relations, Chinese (Mandarin) and Japanese, Tanya has always been fascinated by, not only our differences in how we connect and communicate, but our commonalities as well. Where language and culture are no longer barriers. Where our humanity overrules. Not only has 15years of drinks mixology combined art and science in Tanya's life, but it has given her a front row seat to witnessing every aspect of this humanity that brings us together.
Tanya has written and co-directed one short film previously, 'Hóng Bāo', which received a 4.8/5 star rating on Indie Shorts Mag, screened at international festivals in 2018 and is currently being developed as a web series. As a bilingual short film, Tanya cast her real mother to facilitate the Chinese dialogue. Outside of directing various commercials Tanya also works in the camera department where, as Director of Photography, short film 'Endomic', was Official Selection for Slamdance 2021 as part of their Unstoppable programme. 'Wallpaper' will be Tanya's first solo directed narrative, based on true events.
Some recent acting credits include Showtime's 'Yellowjackets', supporting lead roles in indie feature 'All Joking Aside' directed by Shannon Kohli, winner of the 2020 Cinequest New Visions Award and Lifetime's 'Soccer Mom Madam' directed by Kevin Fair.
With a passion for creating awareness and opportunity, Tanya is currently part of the camera team for documentary web series, Beyond the Podium: Celebrating Canadian Women Champions from the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
