Talking Film Noir

This short film started after watching a number of film noir films from the 40's and 50's. Dialogue stood out for me and I found a book of quotes from many noir films. I began to ask friends to recite various phrases from noir films. I filmed and recorded these quick takes with little planning. I then added visuals all shoot by myself using various formats and edited visuals over the spoken film noir phrases. This all began to take shape as an experimental film when editing the pieces together. Each scene became an abstraction based on a real spoken word from historic noir films.

Director Statement

I learned early on how to make films and videos with no or very low budgets and have adhered to that tradition. I was very much influenced by underground and self made films and filmmakers such as Brakage and Mekas. I have and continue to explore screenwriting with efforts to develop and shoot perhaps longer format films. I always though have believed filmmaking is an art form that should be pursued by filmmakers in whatever ways that are available including the no budget do it yourself way.
