Talk With Dawn Blossoms
In Sanzhou Village, Changting County, Fujian Province, there sits an ancient residence in the Qing Dynasty with a tablet writing “SELI-ENTERTAINMENT”. There lives an elderly person as well as his five dogs in this huge mansion. He is considered as a lunatic in the eyes of both villagers and his relatives for his loafing about the village all day and addiction to alcoholism.
What are the reasons for the villagers to look at Dai Changming in this way? How about his past living stories? After rounds of conversations held and time spent with him, the long-held memories about family and choice unfolded before our eyes.

Mingquan Wei is a junior student at the School of Journalism and Communication in Tsinghua University.
When he was a sophomore, he found himself to be fond of using cameras and lenses to create stories and express his thoughts. He realized that filmmaking is exactly a kind of magic. Any dreams can be came true in movies. After much reflection, he made his decision without hesitation: to change his major to the School of Journalism and Communication from the Department of Electrical Engineering.
He has been striving to become a filmmaker now.Besides learning many courses related to filmmaking in school, he also accepted some internships to strengthen his ability.
As the saying goes, “Dreams don’t abandon a painstaking pursuit of the people, as long as you never stop pursuing, you will bathe in the brilliance of the dream.” He will keep chasing his dream.
Under the guidance of teachers, we came to Changting, Fujian to explore local stories. In the search for nearly three days, we got the news from a driver about the rumour of Sanzhou village. Thus we went there and found the ancient house ‘SELF-ENTERTAIMENT’ and its owner. After interviewing him, we decided to film a documentary to record the meaningful character.
In the film, Dai Changming keeps switching between drunk and sober states. When he is drunk, he will sing loudly, scold kids and talk about the past of himself and his family, appearing excited while sometimes sad. When he is awake, he will resume ordinary villagers’ lives, farming, feeding chickens and making fine bamboo baskets. Through the interviews held and stories shared with us when he was drunk, we know about his family and reasons for alcoholism by reliving the tumultuous life with him together.
