Two young people: he lives in a Russian village, she is a young lady from USA, who miraculously ended up here. They meet and start talking about everything in the world... The only thing that bothers them is their inability to understand each other. But is it only the difference in nationality that doesn’t allow our characters to get close together? Or it is human nature itself, deaf to someone’s difficult experience?

Director Biography - Yaroslav Schcerbinin Alekseevich

I remember my passion for cinematography as long as I could remember myself.

At the age of 14 I felt a strong need for expressing myself in art and started working on my first project. We used to film, edit and read the script on one phone, later it was used for uploading videos on YouTube for our friends and family. When I realized that I have made my first film, I understood two things. Firstly, we have come a long way and actually have filmed our first movie! Secondly, now we have an even longer way to go before making a good picture...

Two and a half years have passed, during which our team was working hard to create different projects: detective stories, fantasy, dramas with difficult choices,
arthouse films. It is not only technical aspect that has improved, but the attitude too.

Passion and direct filmmaking activity have inspired us to learn more about art: read, visit museums and galleries, watch movies and plays, attend lectures and other cultural events.

I’m sure that love and passion for cinematography, literature, paintings and music will help us in the process of making a picture which people would honestly call a real work of art!

Director Statement

This film is an example of a story about people’s relationship, taken to grotesque. People often chat with each other without actually listening to their companions. It happens that for them conversation is a possibility to speak out, not listen. This conflicts appear because of misunderstanding. The Film «Толк» has the title «Talk» in English, and that’s very important. Two characters speak different languages, but if they could understand each other, would something change? After watching, anybody can reflect on their feelings and connections with other people, pay more attention to them, listen and try to understand!
