Tales of the South Downs
This tonal documentary follows "Gill", a landscape artist based in the UK's newest national park the South Downs.
This film isn't necessarily going to give an exact look at the South Downs, but rather reflect how Gill sees them. The footage in the documentary is more a memory or a dream of the locations featured, with each shot to be looked at as its own piece of artwork as Gill visions it.
Created solely by student Dan Pullan (He/Him) as a final project for his University degree, the ethereal tone of this project was influenced by many artists and filmmakers that were researched, including a multitude of independent filmmakers who shot on film.

Dan Pullan is an emerging filmmaker who recently graduated from the University of Brighton at the top of his class with First Class Honours in Media Production.
Dan discovered his affection for film at a young age. With a Spanish mother and English father, he was exposed to diverse cultural narratives and perspectives that have profoundly influenced his storytelling approach. A trip to the north of Spain during his teenage years sparked Dan's interest in landscape photography, further fuelling his interest in film. This experience inspired him to capture the beauty of natural landscapes, a theme that often features prominently in his work.
Dan's passion for both nature and visual arts has driven his dedication to crafting compelling narratives through his lens.
Throughout his academic journey, Dan honed his technical prowess and creative abilities. His work reflects a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of the documentary form, and a unique ability to connect with his audience on an emotional level.
My debut short documentary, "Tales of the South Downs," stands as a testament to my work ethic. This project, which served as my final university assignment, was entirely directed, shot, and edited by myself.
"Tales of the South Downs" delves into the type of people that reside within the South Downs, capturing the essence of this remarkable region with an intimate perspective.
