Take It To The Streets

Set against the gritty backdrop of Memphis, Take It to the Streets , based on a true story, follows Marcus “Mack” Carter, a charismatic but corrupt police officer with big dreams of escaping the streets by launching a rap label. To fund his ambition, Mack manipulates his best friend, Darnell Porter, into joining the police academy, while secretly robbing drug dealers and operating in the shadows of the criminal underworld. As Mack’s empire grows, so does the danger, drawing the attention of Vincent “King” Carter, a powerful drug lord who doesn’t tolerate betrayal.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Oliver Bennett, a principled Internal Affairs officer, embarks on a relentless quest to expose corruption within the department. Torn between his personal life and professional integrity, Bennett zeroes in on Mack, unaware of the deep web of lies and violence connecting the two.

As tensions boil over, loyalty turns to betrayal, and a deadly game of survival begins. With his rap dreams hanging by a thread and the law closing in, Mack must navigate a crumbling empire, dangerous enemies, and the ultimate threat—his own past catching up to him. Take It to the Streets is a gripping crime drama that explores the cost of ambition, the fragility of trust, and the blurred lines between right and wrong.

Writer Statement

As a storyteller, I am deeply drawn to exploring the complexities of human ambition, loyalty, and morality, especially in environments where survival comes at a cost. Take It to the Streets is a story that captures these themes, set against the gritty, vibrant backdrop of Memphis—a city rich in history, music, and conflict.

This series was born out of a desire to delve into the blurred lines between right and wrong, where characters are shaped by the circumstances of their lives and the choices they make to navigate them. Marcus “Mack” Carter, a corrupt cop with dreams of launching a rap label, is the heart of this story. His journey reflects the tension between ambition and destruction, loyalty and betrayal, and ultimately, survival and redemption. Countering him is Sergeant Oliver Bennett, a principled officer whose pursuit of justice comes at great personal cost. Their dynamic encapsulates the moral tension that drives the narrative, while the supporting characters offer additional perspectives on the challenges of living in a morally gray world.

As someone who balances a full-time career with my passion for writing, this project represents my commitment to storytelling as a way to reflect, challenge, and inspire. I want audiences to connect with these characters—not because they are perfect, but because they are human. Their flaws, dreams, and struggles are mirrors of our own lives.

With Take It to the Streets, I aim to create a series that resonates emotionally, sparks conversations, and showcases the power of storytelling to shed light on the darker corners of human experience. It’s a project that speaks to my own journey as a writer: one of persistence, growth, and the relentless pursuit of a dream.
