Hayley Garcia is a 22-year-old Filipina filmmaker from San Jose, California. Hayley typically works behind the camera, but this past year, she has decided to make her writer/director debut with her short film, “Take Care.”
Hayley loves stories about the intricacies of life and relationships told by surrealist filmmakers. Some of her favorite films are "Minari" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." She is also an avid Letterboxd user and loves logging newly watched movies.
She is eager for more filmmakers that reflect the culture and community she sees around her and believes she can be a driver of that change. In the future, Hayley hopes to continue expanding her experience in directing and cinematography alongside like-minded individuals.
Take Care started as a tribute to my family but then became a way to connect intimately to a culture that always felt so distant, reshaping what I thought it meant to be Filipino-American. However, the family in this story just so happens to be Filipino. At its core, this film is about anyone who has felt guilt when pursuing their passions, especially when their family has given up so much for them.
