Theertha was born in Kerala, India, and raised in Mumbai, where she was deeply influenced by the vibrant tapestry of Indian culture and storytelling. After earning her bachelor's degree in fashion communication from the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Mumbai, she pursued her passion for visual storytelling through a career in filmmaking. Starting as a second assistant director for advertisement films, Theertha's drive for creative expression led her to further her studies with a master's degree in film and video communication at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad.
At NID, she fully immersed herself in every aspect of filmmaking, gaining hands-on experience in writing, directing, editing, cinematography, location sound recording, set design, and production control. These diverse experiences have honed her skills, enabling her to approach filmmaking with a unique vision and a comprehensive understanding of the craft. Theertha's work reflects her passion for storytelling and her commitment to pushing the boundaries of cinematic expression.
In our inherently patriarchal society, household chores are often assigned as a woman's responsibility, while the notion that women mature faster is commonly perpetuated. However, the truth is that women are often compelled to mature faster due to being burdened with responsibilities and conditioned from a young age. Society's assertion that women are naturally better at such tasks merely serves to reinforce gender norms, allowing men to evade these duties.
This story intends to shed light on the mental load and the invisible labour
also sometimes referred to as "worry work" or "cognitive labor," the mental load is about not the physical tasks but rather the overseeing of those tasks. It's being the one in charge of having the never-ending list of to-do items constantly running in your head, remembering what needs to get done and when, delegating all the tasks to respective family members, and making sure they actually get done.
woman often end up doing this in the household which leads to burn outs and frustrations often making women feel much more exhausted physically and mentally than their male counterparts.
